The Vegas Golden Knights new American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate is all set to join the league as its newest team beginning next season, and will be called the Henderson Silver Knights as the Golden Knights unveiled their new AHL team's name and logo in a live stream Thursday evening.

"Three short years ago we were gearing up to unveil the NHL's newest franchise: The Vegas Golden Knights," said Golden Knights President Kerry Bubolz in a statement released prior to the unveiling. "Today, we're more than excited to find ourselves back where we started as we prepare to launch our new AHL franchise in Henderson. We had hoped to celebrate the day with our fans in person, but with the health and safety of our community at the forefront of our decision- making, we have decided to take a virtual approach."

The live stream, hosted by Daren Millard, Gary Lawless and Stormy Buonantony, featured special appearances from Vegas Golden Knights and AHL Henderson owner Bill Foley, Henderson Mayor Debra March and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Ben Jones.

Nevada is officially known as the "Silver State" because of the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is also known as the "Battle Born State" because it achieved statehood during the Civil War.

The Henderson Silver Knights are set to join the AHL for the upcoming 2020-21 season and will play at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas until the construction of their new facility in Henderson is completed. They become the new 31st AHL team after the Vegas Golden Knights purchased the AHL franchise previously owned by the Spurs Sports and Entertainment group in San Antonio, Texas, the previous home of the San Antonio Rampage, back in February -> http://insideahlhockey.com/article/times-they-are-a-changin-262020

On May 19th, the Henderson City council approved - by a 4-1 vote - the allocation of $42 million in funding for the construction of the Henderson Event Center, which will host the games of Vegas' new AHL affiliate - the Henderson Silver Knights - in addition to replacing a now out-dated Henderson Pavilion Center - the largest open-air amphitheater in Nevada and the first of its kind in Southern Nevada upon its inception in 2002.

The Vegas Golden Knights will be matching the city's $42 million to complete the funding for the projected $84 million, 6,000-seat arena to be located at the 200-block of the South Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, Nevada, south of I-215 and the Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa/Casino. Construction is set to begin in August and be completed in time for the Silver Knights to use beginning with the 2022-23 season.

The Lifeguard Arena construction project (pictured above) is well underway and, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, was expected to be finished later this summer and expected to open in the fall. The Lifeguard Arena is also in Henderson, located at 240 South Water Street, roughly 8-10 miles away from the site that will become the Henderson Event Center. The facility will be a community arena while also functioning as the Silver Knights' practice facility. It will also serve as the home of the hockey team's offices, and front office staff will be headquartered at that facility.

Kerry Bubolz, COO and team president of the Golden Knights, indicated during a conference call with the city council at May 19th's meeting that the Vegas AHL team's practices at the Lifeguard Arena will be free and open to the public and that the addition of an AHL team in Henderson would provide numerous benefits to the community beyond just the AHL and hockey.

"We have no doubt this team will leave a mark on our city just as the Golden Knights have done and we can't wait for the journey to start," Bubolz later said in a statement released by the Golden Knights
