WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (28-12-4) seemingly put a long week of practice to good use on Saturday night against Syracuse, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and never looking back in what ended up being a 4-1 victory.
Avery Hayes and Rafael Harvey-Pinard each tallied their 11th goal of the season in the opening period Saturday, and after a bit of a lull for both teams in the middle frame Matt Dumba fired a puck into the net from the right point to extend the Pens' lead to 3-0 heading to the third period.
Syracuse broke Sergei Murashov's shutout bid on a third period power play tally from Conor Geekie, but Gabe Klassen restored the Penguins' three-goal lead and sealed the deal on their 4-1 win.
