WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (36-14-6) fell behind in the first period, and despite multiple efforts throughout the contest to battle back ultimately came up short Wednesday night in a 5-4 loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds (22-25-7).

Aidan McDonough tallied a game-high three points (two goals, assist), Rutger McGroart recorded two assists and Tanner Howe and Rafael Harvey-Pinard each tallied goals for the Penguins but it wasn't enough to get the job done thanks to seven Penguins shorthanded situations that ultimately prevented them from completing a comeback in the third period.

Springfield got a pair of goals from Dillon Dube, and tallies from Juraj Pekarcik, Mathieu Joseph and Chris Wagner to lead them to victory Wednesday while Georgii Romanov stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced to pick up the win.
