It appears Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fans will have the opportunity to see some new opponents in Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza this upcoming season as multiple sources indicate to InsideAHLHockey.com that the AHL Penguins will be playing some teams from the Western Conference during their 2026-27 regular season schedule - including one team they haven't faced in over 20 years.
This will mark the first time Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will play against teams from the other conference in the league since the 2019-20 season when they traveled to Texas for two games each against the Texas Stars and the now defunct San Antonio Rampage.
AHL fans shouldn't have long to wait for the 2026-27 regular season schedule, either. I believe that will be released on Thursday, with the each team revealing their home opener date and opponent the day prior as they usually do.
