The American Hockey League (AHL) announced that Hershey Bears defenseman Colby Williams has been suspended three games as a result of the match penalty for the check to the head of Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward Danick Martel during the second period of Saturday night's game.

Sunday's 2-1 Phantoms' win counted as the first game of Williams' three-game suspension.

Williams will also miss Hershey's games on Wednesday, January 17 in Springfield and the 2018 AHL Outdoor Classic Saturday, January 20 against Lehigh Valley

Here's the hit in question, with different angles for you to make your own call on whether the hit was suspension worthy, should have been less/more games etc.

Latest on Danick Martel

Inside AHL Hockey learned Sunday in Hershey that Danick Martel underwent surgery early Sunday morning for what is a suspected broken jaw sustained from that hit from Hershey's Colby Williams.

There wasn't much of an update further than confirming Martel had surgery Sunday, but that alone is enough to suggest that Martel's availability for this Saturday's 2018 AHL Outdoor Classic, the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic at the end of the month and the foreseeable future are very much in doubt.

EDIT: Martel himself confirmed our original report of his broken jaw via his own personal Facebook page where he thanked fans for their outreach and support.
