They say you never know what battles someone may be going through.

Well today, I've decided I should provide a little update to those who may have noticed the quality and quantity of my AHL coverage this season has been well below my standard the past 13 years.

To be clear: I'm not doing this looking for a pity party.

Those who know me well know that outside of my hockey tweets on social media I'm a pretty private person.

I'm providing this update in the hopes that others reading this - even one single person - will stop putting off their own health and well-being and go get checked out if something doesn't seem right.

Over the past year or two, I've had episodes where I suddenly become very ill - with nausea and vomiting similar to a bout of food poisoning or a 24hr bug.

I pressed on.

These occurrences were rare and pretty spread out, which left me wondering what I had to eat that day that led to the nausea.

The first few times, I thought - I must have eaten something that didn't agree with my stomach. I must have caught a stomach bug.

Fast forward to today, and these "rare" fits of nausea and emptying my stomach contents has become part of my weekly - and sometimes even daily - routine.

I didn't quite understand how much damage I was doing until a recent semi-annual checkup and I got on the scale..

Most people would be jumping for joy about losing nearly 25 pounds in five and a half months, but when I saw the number on that scale I immediately knew something was wrong.

Since that visit last month, I've become a bit of an expert on 8-hour and 12-hour fasting.

Unfortunately, that means I've been spending more time in the hospital lately than at the rink.

All of this to say that I need to take a bit of a step back in regards to my around-the-clock AHL coverage at InsideAHLHockey.com.

Between needing to find out what's wrong with me, and the impending doom of medical debt that will be heading my way I won't be able to travel much to games in the short term.

I will still continue to try my best to get to some games in Wilkes-Barre, and pop by Coal Street for practice from time to time but for now I need to focus on fixing whatever it is that is preventing me - at this point - from being able to eat and digest food.

I'm hopeful that this won't sideline me for too long.

I truly love going to the rink and covering the next generation of NHL stars, and hope to be back to my normal self providing the in-depth coverage you've come to expect from InsideAHLHockey.com.
