The one AHL free agent tracker to rule them all!

InsideAHLHockey.com's unparalleled coverage of the American Hockey League's (AHL) off-season and AHL Free Agency 2026 continues all summer long.

Back this year is the noting players who are subject to the AHL's Development Rule.

The development rule limits teams to dressing just six skaters in their game night lineups deemed as 'veterans', or players who enter the season with more than 260 professional games played.

Previously, of those six, one must have entered the season with fewer than 320 pro games. That portion of the AHL's development rule has been eliminated in the new CBA that the league and the Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) collectively bargained this past season.

These 'veteran' spots are valuable to AHL teams in terms of off-season/free agency roster construction.

Players entering the 2026-27 season with over 260 or more pro games of experience are noted as 'veteran'.

In both the subscriber-only versions of the 2025 AHL Free Agent Tracker and the 2025 AHL Free Agent 'Big Board' there is information on the type of expiring contract the player had at the end of the 2025-26 season whether that is an AHL-contracted unrestricted free agent (AHL UFA) or an NHL-contracted unrestricted free agent (NHL UFA).

Restricted free agents who weren't tendered qualifying offers are noted as UFA's that weren't tended qualifying offers to provide additional clarity on the free agent.

463 AHL-level free agents (53 goalies, 146 defensemen and 264 forwards) that we've identified who appeared in AHL games or were under AHL contract in 2025-26 and are unsigned heading into the start of free agency on Wednesday.

This is our largest AHL player tracker yet, surpassing 2025's free agent class of 451 AHL-level free agents (52 goalies, 138 defensemen and 261 forwards) and 2024's free agent class of 414 (52 goalies, 123 defensemen and 239 forwards)
