AHL FREE AGENCY: A Look At Free Agent Signings Affecting AHL Teams

The uncertainties surrounding how free agency would begin in regards to contracts being signed by AHL-level players were answered this weekend.
Through the opening two days, it appears that only 55 such contracts have been confirmed with just one of those 55 being an AHL contract.
Springfield Thunderbirds captain RW Paul Thompson signed an AHL contract with nearby rival Hartford WolfPack after his NHL two-way contract with Florida expired and he became an unrestricted free agent.
AHL FREE AGENCY DAY FOUR
Day Four of Free Agency saw three AHL teams announce a total of five AHL contracts signed for the 2020-21 season with goalie Brad Thiessen (Cleveland), defensemen Logan Day (Lehigh Valley) and Dillion Simpson (Cleveland) and forwards Justin Scott (Cleveland) and Dalton Smith (Rochester) all coming to terms with their respective teams.
The biggest AHL-related signing of the day came Monday evening when news broke that former Stockton Heat center Austin Czarnik signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders, potentially setting up their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers with a bonafide #1 center and perennial gamer at the AHL level.
