WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were in prime position to take a stranglehold in the Atlantic Division Finals on Thursday night.

Entering the third period leading Game 2 by a 3-0 margin, the Penguins allowed a shorthanded goal in the opening minute of the final frame - giving Springfield some life.

The Thunderbirds rallied for a pair of extra attacker goals from Dillon Dube in the final 3:24 of regulation to force overtime, and completed the comeback 13:44 into the first overtime on a strange bounce after Akil Thomas was hauled down as he was shooting the puck toward the net.

Thomas' shot missed the net, but ended up taking a fortuitous bounce for Springfield off the back of Penguins goaltender Sergei Murashov's left arm before bouncing across the goal line.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton opened up a 3-0 lead on goals from Bill Zonnon (PPG), Tristan Broz and Avery Hayes (PPG) but went into prevent-defense mode in the third period and got away from their game.

The Thunderbirds' win evens the series at 1-1 as the series shifts to Springfield for Games 3 and 4 beginning with Game 3 on Tuesday night.
